WBPR-FM (Pirate)
For some reason Connecticut has been a hot bed of pirate radio activity for more than three decades.  Over the years there have been some serious operations, including WKOB, WYBS, WPRT and Prayse FM yet perhaps nothing compares, at least publicity-wise, to WBPR, a 1,000 watt FM station that operated from Pratt Street in Hartford on 88.3 in 1970 without a license.  It may have been one of the first high power pirates in the area.

WBPR first came on the air in 1970 and operated from the fifth floor of 75 Pratt Street in Hartford with a reported 5,000 watts on 88.3 Mhz.  Gary McNeil, a high school student, was the operator and the schedule was 10 am to 2 am M-F and 10 am to 11 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Other personnel include Peter Stathis, VP and Abigale Kende, Station Manager.
