WUCS (97.9 Mhz) initially came on the air in July, 1990 as WPKX, a country music station licensed to Enfield, CT serving the Springfield market.
In March, 2010 licensee IHeartMedia, Inc moved the station's transmitter from Provin Mountain in Feeding Hills, MA to to top of City Place in downtown Hartford, CT. This moved the station from the Springfield to the Hartford Nielson ratings market. The format switched to ESPN radio at the same time.
